SAT & ACT Test Preparation

4 key factors contribute to a
successful test tutoring experience.
ArchAdmissions addresses
each factor with excellence.

1. The Most Appropriate Methods

Unfortunately, most mass-market published materials and tutors use methods that are similar, if not identical, to the ones that would be used in a math or English classroom. However, this is not the most effective approach in the context of a standardized test that will be taken under time pressure. So, we utilize methods designed to give a student his or her best chance of getting to the correct answer in as little time as possible. That said, the approach that suits one student perfectly may not be a good fit for another. The “most appropriate” method therefore will vary from student to student. That’s why our tutor has different approaches that can be customized to best fit for each student’s needs.

2. The Best Materials

Previously administered official tests or sample official tests can serve as an excellent source of practice in simulating the future test. In addition, supplementary materials can reinforce individual topics as they are covered. Our tutors know that such materials must include a range of difficulty levels, from the easiest to the most difficult, that they must be written using language that mirrors the language patterns on the official test, and that they must cover all and only those aspects of the topic that might be tested.

3. The Right Curriculum

Large “corporate” tutoring companies deliver their material to using a standardized curriculum, so that all classes and students cover the same topics in the same order. In contrast, our tutors address the needs of each individual student to determine and update the proper curriculum on a session-to-session basis. For two different students, topics might be covered in a different order, for a different duration, and using different approaches. By addressing each student’s most pressing needs first in the way best suited to his or her learning style, our tutors achieve maximal results from day one. And our students see the most immediate benefit, thus increasing their motivation, confidence and performance.

4. The Right Tutor

Our tutors have complete mastery of the prep materials in order to teach at all levels — from the most basic to the most advanced.  Our tutors know these tests inside out. They’ve helped a wide range of students anticipate hurdles, overcome doubts and avoid misunderstanding in order to maximize performance. Beyond that, our tutors have exceptional ability to set the most productive tone in every session. There are times to press ahead and times to review and be supportive– our tutors know the difference. Personality, empathy, the ability to motivate – and, yes, a sense of humor — are the hallmarks of our tutors.
